33 km from the airport, Trieste deserves at least a full day. The city is the former capital of the Habsburg coastline and preserves neoclassical palaces, literary cafés and a lively cultural scene. The Canal Grande with the church of Sant'Antonio is one of the city's most beautiful postcards.

Trieste is also the world coffee capital: here you drink "caffè" (not espresso), "nero" and "capo in b" according to a completely local vocabulary. The Risiera di San Sabba, the only Nazi extermination camp in Italy, is an essential place of memory. By car you can return to the airport in less than 30 minutes even from the centre.
